The theme of Isaiah 24 through 27 is about the day when the Kingdom of the Messiah ultimately triumphs and rules.
1. Three wild animals are pictures of the rulers of Israel’s enemies (vs. 1)
-
“Leviathan” – Assyria
-
“Serpent” – Babylon
-
“Dragon” – Egypt. See also Revelation 12. Isaiah prophesies the ultimate defeat of Satan when the Kingdom of the Messiah conquers all.
2. The song of a fruitful vineyard (vs. 2-6)
In the days of the Kingdom of the Messiah, the Lord keeps the vineyard of Israel with special care. He waters it (I will water it every moment), He protects it (lest any hurt it), He guards it constantly (I keep it night and day) against all enemies, forcing them to make peace with Him and His vineyard.
This will be ultimately fulfilled in the Kingdom of the Messiah, but if we yield to the care of the Lord right now, He will care for us as His precious vineyard right now, and we will enjoy the blessings of that care (John 15:1-8).
3. The prophet’s reflection upon the divine ways with Israel (vs. 7-13)
-
God has not treated Israel as He has treated the world. (vs. 7-8).
-
God will not restore the nation until the people destroy their idols (vs. 9).
-
Some Jews will never believe in God. (vs. 10-11). God will punish them.
-
Israel will be restored to the fullness of God’s promise. (vs. 12-13). God will separate the believers from the unbelievers by examining them all – one by one. Some Israelites will be living in many lands from the great river Euphrates to the little stream of Egypt, God will gather them again. The trumpet in verse 13 is the same as the one in Matthew 24.
