The glaring inadequacy of evolutionary theory is no more evident than in its feeble and failed attempts to explain the origin of the sexes. The overwhelming presence of the male and female sexes (whether in plants, animals, or humans) and sexual reproduction based on differences in gender defy any naturalistic explanation.
Biology texts are quick to illustrate amoebas evolving into intermediate organisms, which then conveniently give rise to amphibians, reptiles, mammals and eventually humans. Yet, interestingly, we never learn exactly when (or more importantly how!) the independent male and female species “evolved”. Somewhere along this evolutionary path, both males and females were required in order to ensure the procreation that was necessary to further the existence of a particular species.
Sex is a puzzle that has not yet been solved. No one knows why it exists. Its disadvantages seem to outweigh its benefits. A parent that reproduces sexually gives only one-half its genes to its offspring, whereas an organism that reproduces by dividing passes on all its genes. Sex also takes much longer and requires more energy than simple division. Why did a process so blatantly unprofitable to its earliest practitioners become so widespread? From an evolutionary viewpoint, sex would be considered “absurd”. But from a design viewpoint, it is nothing short of incredible!
Despite centuries of cross-breeding all breeders can testify that cows remain cows and that sunflowers will never grow from wheat. The plants bear “seed according to their kinds” (Genesis 1:12) and animals were commanded by God to “increase in number” (Genesis 1:22). Each kind was equipped and enabled to produce itself in its own way. There is great diversity in creation in reproduction – a field of study in itself! It was God’s idea to create man and woman differently and they were also commanded to multiply. See Genesis 1:27-28.
