Amazing Creations – The Archer Fish

The Archer fish overcomes a problem in sea to air ballistics. He squirts water at his prey, which are bugs and flies. His mouth has a built in groove that channels the water like a squirt gun. But the biggest problem is his aim. He has to overcome the refractive difference from water to air in order to accurately hit his prey. If you ever looked at a sponge in a glass of water, you would understand the problem. The refractive quality of water makes it appear to be broken in half. Where did the fish get the idea to be a sniper? The answer is that it was designed that way!

The archerfish just “happens” to have a groove along the roof of its mouth.  Water is forced backwards through the gills and out through a firing tube formed by the tongue and this special groove. It is not some random mutation or something you wish for and it happens!

It is a marvel of God’s design.
