Why You Need Christ – Ephesians 2:1-10

Why do I need Christ in my life? You say “I’m not a bad person”. The Bible makes it simple to understand.

1 – The terrible condition of people without Christ

There are six things that describe the condition of a person without Christ:-

  • Dead (vs 1). There is no ability to hear or respond to the Gospel.
  • Deluded. (vs 2a). There is a delusion to trust in this world. Some people look to the world to give us standards and answers to live by.
  • Dominated (vs 2b). They are under the control of the Devil. People outside of Christ are not free. They are trapped and need help. See 2 Corinthians 4:4. They have been blinded by the god of this world – Satan. They need prayer and someone to speak to them about the need for God’s love in their lives.
  • Driven (vs 3). They are trapped by their own cravings. All of us are like this. Only Christ can set us free. We can be driven by our passions and thoughts.
  • Distant (vs 12). Those outside of Christ do not have the vaguest idea of what the Gospel is about.
  • Damned (vs 3). They are the objects of wrath. They will face the judgment of God for their sins. Many that have been praised at the grave will face the damnation of God. See Romans 2:14. They will be judged by their own conscience.

2 – The tremendous condition of people in Christ

There are six things that describe the condition of a person with Christ:-

  • Reborn (vs 5). God has reached into our lives and changed it. Things are new.
  • Rescued (vs 8). We have been plucked from the fire of God’s wrath. There is citizenship and fellowship.
  • Raised (vs 6-7). We are no longer under the domination of Satan. We are now free to choose for God and to overcome the lusts of the flesh. We are God’s trophies. He raises us up to bring glory to his name.
  • Recreated (vs 10). We are able to follow the perfect purposes of God. We are God’s masterpiece. The sinful nature is no longer in control. We are made in the image of God again.
