Worthy Is The Lamb – Revelation 5:8-14

The scene is still set around the throne of God after the rapture of the church. It is a glorious reunion around the throne of God. There is great praise for the Lord Jesus who is worthy to open the scroll and redeem this universe. This is the first mention of music in the book of Revelation. The theme to the praise is “Worthy is the Lamb!” There is a concert in heaven!

1 – There is submission around the throne (vs. 8)

This is illustrated in two things:-

  • Harp – There is music around the throne of God. Music plays an important part in the worship of God.
  • Golden bowls – There are prayers around the throne of God. God is collecting out prayers to give back to us.

2. There is singing around the throne (vs. 9-10)

They sung a new song. The tune up is over. The voices are warmed up. It is time for the concert to begin. If you can’t sing now don’t worry! You will be able to sing in tune in Heaven. What are we going to sing about?

  • Our redemption (vs. 9) – “Thou was slain and hast redeemed us to God by your blood”. We will be thinking about the cross in Heaven. Jesus will still bear the marks. This will be a brand new song. Jesus will be there when we sing this song. Some songs might move you today but nothing will beat this song because Jesus will be there while we sing it to Him. Jesus bought us back with His blood. Jesus paid the price so that we didn’t get what we deserved! This choir will not be segregated – it will consist of people out of every nation. This is the way it ought to be now in God’s churches.
  • Our royalty (vs. 10) – “He has made us kings and priests and we shall reign with Him.” It may not look like it now but we are all “Kings and priests”. We don’t need to confess to a priest today. We can come boldly before God’s throne and make our requests know. We can confess our sins and be forgiven.

3. There is shouting around the throne (vs. 11-14)

The angels now also get involved. There many angels shouting out to the glory of God. John can’t count all the angels! The number of angels cannot be counted. See Hebrews 12:1. The angels have never gone through trials and tribulations. They marvel over God’s salvation. It is no wonder they have to shout out. Everyone falls down to the ground in worship to the Lord.
