The King Is Coming – Revelation 1:7-8

These verses are a trailer of what is to come. It is a preview of a coming attraction. There are many things we would like to have seen in the Bible. It would be great to have seen Jesus walk on the water. Jesus is coming back and every eye will see Him. We don’t need to speculate about the return of Jesus Christ. The return of Jesus Christ is a source of inspiration to us. See 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 & Titus 2:13.

1 – His Coming (vs. 7)

Behold – Listen to what I am saying!

  • A visible coming – Jesus is coming with clouds. This reminds of how Jesus left this world. See Acts 1:9-11. It is the same Jesus who left this world in glory who is coming back in glory. In the Old Testament the children of Israel followed the Shekinah cloud in the desert. When God appeared in the Temple who draped with a cloud. It will be a visible coming.
  • It is promised – See John 14:1-3. It is the event of the all events and it is coming soon! The best part is yet to come!
  • Every eye will see it. The viewing figures will be bigger than any sporting event or state funeral. No one will miss this event! There will be no atheists, agnostics or scoffers at that time.
  • A vengeful coming. See 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10. Jesus will return for His saints and then return with His saints. There will a time of Great Tribulation and a final battle where many will be killed.
  • A victorious coming. Jesus is not coming to lose. He is coming to win. He will live up to His name – King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus was chased away by this world. One week it was “hail Him” and the next week “nail Him”. This time Jesus is coming to take His Kingdom and defeat His enemies.

2. His characteristics (vs. 8)

  • Omniscient – Jesus is all knowing. He is the “alpha and the omega”. Letters allow us to accumulate wisdom. We use 26 letters in our alphabet and these are used to produce all our written works. Jesus is God’s alphabet. He has all knowledge and wisdom. He is everything you need. God knows everything there is to know about you. He knows what you are thinking and your motivations. Christ is the end who never ends.
  • Omnipresent- “Who is and who was and who is to come” Jesus is and that is all there is to it! Whatever your problem, Jesus is there. There is no place that we can hide from God. God is already there! We can send a rocket to Pluto and it takes 10 years to get there. When it gets there God will already be there!
  • Omnipotent – “The Almighty” He is mighty all the time. There is nothing too hard for God. God can handle anything in your life. He can handle your salvation. He can pick you up from your life of sin and turn you around. Make sure you are saved before Jesus returns. He can handle your sanctification. Jesus will keep a hold of you. He can handle your situation. If it is a problem in your home, work or your body? Jesus can handle it because He is the Almighty. He can handle your satisfaction. Jesus will satisfy you if you walk with Him and talk with Him. Drink, drugs and illicit sex won’t satisfy you.
