Behold The Lamb – Revelation 5:1-7

This is one of the grandest scenes in the entire Bible. The scene is set around the throne of God after the rapture of the church. It is a glorious reunion around the throne of God.

1 – A fantastic scroll (vs. 1)

This scroll is the most important document in the universe. It is the title deed to the universe. God had given Adam and Eve authority to rule over this earth and then Satan crept in and took the title deed. When Adam and Eve fell, the whole of creation fell with them. See Romans 8:22. That is why we have hurricanes, tornadoes, murder and rape in this world. Man could not win back the title deed as the payment was sinless blood. The whole of the universe needed to be redeemed. Who can pay the price? Adam and Eve do not go the Lord for help. They tried to sort it out themselves. Adam and Eve or their descendents have been unable to pay the price to redeem this universe. Material things cannot redeem the universe. See 1 Peter 1:18-20. Jesus has paid the debt. There is no other way to be redeemed. See Acts 4:12.

2 – A frantic search (vs. 2-4)

The question is not “who is willing” but rather “who is worthy”. There are many people willing to run the universe like Alexander the Great, Napoleon and Hitler. They were defeated because although they were willing, they were not worthy.

  • They searched heaven – The search goes through all the mighty angels, the Old Testament and New Testament saints. No one is found worthy.
  • They search the earth – They looked at the mighty leaders of the earth and none were found worthy. They went to the great educational leaders and none were found worthy. They went to the religious leaders and none were found worthy.
  • They search under the earth – They looked in hell. No demon could even say a word. They may have been willing but they were not worthy.

John begins to weep because no one has been found worthy. There is no one to redeem the universe from sin and there would be no salvation.

3 – A fabulous Saviour (vs. 5-7)

There was no need to weep. Christ has been there all along. He is the only one who is worthy. Here are the reasons why He is worthy.

  • Creation – He created it all. See Revelation 4:11 & Colossians 1:16. If you created it then you should be the one who can run it. Man cannot create anything. Man makes things from God’s materials.
  • Calgary (vs. 5-6) – Jesus has shed His bled for the sins of the world. Without the shedding of His blood we could not be saved. He still has the nail prints in his hands.
  • Conquest (vs. 5-6) – The Lamb of God has prevailed. He has been victorious. He is the conqueror. The grave could not hold Jesus. He arose from the dead and won the victory. We have the victory and we don’t know what we have! Behold the Lamb of God!
