You Are In The Will – Hebrews 9:15-28

In these verses we have the last will and testament of the Lord Jesus Christ. See Luke 22:14-22. The word “testament” usually means “agreement”. It can also refer to “a final will”. A will tells how our goods will be disposed of when we die. We are in the will of Christ. We are told in the Bible that we are heirs of God.

1 – This will is victorious (vs. 15)

This will gives victory to everyone who is in it. Christ is the owner and executor of the will! He died but he didn’t stay dead!

  • Because of the benefits (vs. 15) – Jesus is the mediator. He has closed the gap between man and God. See 1 Timothy 2. He is the mediator of a new covenant. When Jesus died he paid the price for the Old Testament saints. He credited their account. See Hebrews 4:3. Those who are called get the promise of eternal inheritance. You cannot lose it. It is God who calls people to this eternal inheritance. It is not temporary. See John 10:28-29 & Titus 3:7.
  • Because of is benefactor (vs. 16-17) – Jesus Christ is the one who has died and bequeathed to us. The only way this will is valid, is if Jesus Christ is put to death.

2 – This will is validated (vs. 15-23)

It is the validated by the blood of Jesus Christ.

  • It is pictured in the Old Testament (vs. 15-21) – In the Old Testament the blood validated the covenant.
  • It was provided (vs. 22-23) – What was pictured in the Old Testament, has been provided in the New Testament. Some churches do not want to hear about the blood. Jesus did not want us to forget about the blood. Why else do we have communion? It is important that we do not forget. The sacrifice we have today is better. God can not cancel the debt caused by our sin, without the shedding of blood.

3 – This will is verified (vs. 24-28)

Wills are contested all the time. There will be problems to verify things. The author of this will rose from the dead to verify this will himself. Jesus appeared and verified his own will.

  • His present appearing (vs. 24) – Jesus is now face to face with God. He is sitting down for us. It is not just for himself. He is making sure we get all we are supposed to in the will. He has executed the will himself.
  • His past appearing (vs. 25-26) – The High Priest had to offer every single year with animal blood. Jesus does not need to suffer and die every year. He offered himself once. There is nothing else that he needs to do to get you saved. He uses preachers to tell others this message.
  • His promised appearing (vs. 27-28) – There is no such thing as reincarnation. We die once. Jesus Christ is coming back to finish executing his will. What do you have to be down about? You are in the will.
