We often don’t realise what a mighty God we serve. There is no trouble or problem that can stop the purposes of God. See Ephesians 1:15-20. Paul wants us to comprehend the might of our God. Imagine how you would lead your life if you understood the might and power of our God.
1 – He is the mighty God of reconciliation (vs. 20)
In the Garden of Eden mankind declared war on God by disobeying his commandment. This has continued throughout history, God had to devise a plan of reconciliation – or else destroy mankind. God has always made the first move to help us. The plan required that Jesus was born. See Luke 2:14 “… on Earth peace and goodwill to men”. He is the God of peace. Jesus bought this peace by his death upon the cross. See Colossians 1:20. Satan could not prevent this peace treaty between God and man. Peace brings about reconciliation. Jesus has bridged the gap between God and man. We were alienated and enemies of God due to our wicked works. Jesus has brought God and man back together as friends. The proof of salvation is that you continue to follow Christ. We are a new creation. See Romans 5:1 & 2 Corinthians 5:17. We have the ministry of reconciliation to tell others how they can be reconciled to God. We are ambassadors for Christ, as Christ was an ambassador for God.
2 – He is the mighty God of resurrection (vs. 20)
It was God who raised Jesus Christ from the dead. The resurrection is the foundation of our faith. If Jesus has not risen from the dead then we are being deceived and deceiving others. Our faith is built upon the sand rather than the rock. He is not still in a tomb! Our God is a God of resurrection. See Acts 2:32, Acts 3:15 & Acts 4:10 there were many witnesses. If God raised Jesus from the dead then that is our guarantee that God will raise me from the dead. We don’t need to put our faith in any other religions. There is only one God who can resurrect the dead.
3 – His is the mighty God of restoration (vs. 20)
Jesus is the great shepherd of the sheep. A shepherd will leave the ninety-nine and go after the one which has gone astray. He will restore my soul when I go astray. We have a shepherd who cares for his sheep. It takes a mighty God to care for the sheep. See Isaiah 40:11-15. If sheep can’t walk he will carry them. God knows the weight of a mountain. He knows the number of hairs in your head. Who can give God any advice? It is not possible to teach God. God teaches us. The nations of this world are like a drop in a bucket. This mighty God is our shepherd. See John 10:11-14 & 1 Peter 2:25. We were sheep going astray and he came to get us. The Shepherd shall come back See 1 Peter 5:4 He provides for us right now. Here are four things we get right now:-
-
Salvation (vs. 20).
-
Sanctification (vs. 21). He will make you perfect (mature). He will mend that which was broken. He will make you complete. He will set you apart. God works on the inside out.
-
Service (vs. 21). Now you can serve God. He uses the Bible to get you ready to serve him. He will use sanctification. He will use other saints. He will use suffering. They will make you to grow through these things.
-
Satisfaction (vs. 21). God is now satisfied with me. We were enemies to God but God went to work and found a way to reconcile us to him. It takes a mighty God to make an enemy a friend. What a mighty God!
