The Mystery Of God Revealed – Colossians 1:3-29

The Church at Colossae was tormented with false teachers who were trying to mystify the Gospel. There is no mystery any more thanks to the gospel! God has always been a revealer throughout history. The revelation of God has been gradual from the beginning through to the end. People today have no excuse. If you read the Bible and ask God, He is willing to reveal Himself to you. This is the work of God the Holy Spirit. God has already clearly revealed Himself in the flesh in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. What can we say about Jesus?

1 – The Icon of God

To become a citizen of the UK you have to swear allegiance to the Queen. There is great big picture of the Queen on the wall in the court. In the court of God we have a representative. The Christian has sworn allegiance to Jesus Christ. If you have seen Jesus, then you have seen God. He is the exact image of God.

2 – The Inheritor of Everything

The first born receives everything from the father as an inheritance. The more we discover in the physical world means the more we discover what belongs to Jesus.

3 – The Supreme Authority

Jesus had the fullness of God. He is fully God as well as fully man. He cannot be seen as a great man, spiritual leader or compassionate human being. He did not claim any of those things. He claimed to be God come in the flesh to die for the sins of mankind.

4 – Head of the Church

Jesus is the head of the church and Paul is his bond servant. The bond servant had a choice after six years of service to leave or remain for life. Those that remain for life were marked with a fold earring. Paul was committed for life. This is what it means to be a Christian. It is an honour and a huge commitment.

5 – The resurrection

Jesus is the first fruit. We are to follow him and be resurrected into eternal life. Death is not the end for the follower of Christ.

6 – Fully God

Jesus wasn’t partly God or a godly person. He was God. Paul counters the false teaching by stating that all the fullness of deity is not spread out in small doses to a group of spirits, but fully dwells in Christ alone.

7 – Restorer of creation

No matter how much we try to fix creation it means in need of repair. It is broken beyond our ability to fix. It is Jesus Christ who will fix it. If you like creation now, then imagine what it will look like in the future!

8- Restorer of God’s dream

The dream that God has for mankind will be restored. We will be truly human. We know that God loves us and wants to know us that we might know Him. You were made in the image of God from the beginning and this glory can be restored. We need to be dethroned and realise that Christ is our hope and glory. Christ needs to be in the centre of your life. We need the God’s power.
