Deal Or No Deal – Colossians 2:8-10

There is a game show called “Deal or No Deal”. The rules are simple. Choose a briefcase. Then as each round progresses, you must either stay with your original briefcase choice or make a “deal” with the bank to accept its cash offer in exchange for whatever amount is in your chosen case.

1 – Don’t let anyone kidnap you (vs. 8)

They were being tempted to go for another box that might give them more. It was the box of Gnosticism. This error had invaded the church. There were deceivers in the church and these teachers seemed plausible. They have to be to deceive people! However, they would take away their spiritual freedom.

  • The power of philosophy – The pursuit of wisdom may not contain the truth. These teachers are human and their ideas are not God-breathed.
  • The power of tradition – There is a godly biblical tradition that has been handed down. Does the tradition have its basis in the Word of God or is it man-made?
  • The power of astrology – You can dabble things in things that seduce you and then become captive to it.

2 – Christ is adequate (vs. 9)

This is how we combat these powers that seek to kidnap us.

  • Note His equality in the Godhead – He is worthy of our love. We need to run to Christ. We are to be intolerant of those who oppose the deity of Christ.
  • Note His superiority in all things. He is complete. We don’t need Christ and something else. He is able to meet all our needs.

3 – We are complete in Him (vs. 10)

He is the same in every believer. Have you received Christ in your life? There is no need for supplements. He is God’s treasure chest. You have hit the jackpot if you have Jesus Christ.
