We can feel that God cannot use us. God can use anyone with what little they might think they have. God can do extraordinary things with ordinary people. God prefers to do it this way as it brings glory to Himself.
1 – God’s simple people (vs. 27)
The word “foolish” is the same word we get the word “moron” from. It describes those who are not very intellectual. They are people who were not top of the class and an IQ over 130. God chooses the non-intellectuals to confound the wise. God chooses the weak to confound the mighty. God uses the “nobodies” of this world to change the world. God can still use the intellectuals and mighty people. It doesn’t take much of a man to be a Christian. It just takes all that you have. You don’t have to be a super star for God to use you.
2 – God’s special power (vs. 30)
Jesus is in us. If I don’t have wisdom or righteousness, etc, etc, then Jesus has all that I need. God does things through us. We need to make ourselves available. We can live our life through the special power that God gives us. Billy Sunday was mightily used of God, yet he did not have a great education. God used Billy Sunday to show that he could take the foolish and use him through His power. Gideon was of the least of the tribes and poor. He was the bottom of the barrel! God used him and God got the glory. The Spirit of the Lord clothed Himself with Gideon. David took out Goliath in the power of the Lord. It would have been nothing unusual if two giants had battled each other and one had won. When David won everyone knew there was a God in Israel! The world’s nobodies are God’s some bodies.
3 – God’s sovereign purpose (vs. 29)
Why does God do this? No flesh will glory in His presence. There will be no peacocks in Heaven. God will only save us by grace and not works. There are no superstars in Heaven. You need to find the will of God. You may not be used of God the way that you want to be used. Don’t insult God by saying that God can’t use you. God is looking for someone just like you. What is weak to the world can be strong in the power of the Lord.
