Making an Impact for God – Acts 17:1-15

Thessalonica was a capital city of the area. Paul goes here and stays less than a month. (vs. 2). What he left behind was one of the strongest New Testament churches. We can see this from Paul’s two letters to the Thessalonians. The greatest desire for our lives should be to make an impact for God. Here are three things that you need to make an impact for God.

1 – Courage (vs. 1-2)

There were always the unbelieving Jews who opposed the preaching of the Gospel. This was because there were those Jews who were becoming Christians. Paul had great courage. He was not afraid. It takes courage to make an impact. Here are some things that you need to have courage:-

  • A commitment to a cause.
  • The omnipotence of God.
  • An unlimited prayer life.
  • Rising above challenges that you face.
  • Acknowledging your own weaknesses.
  • Gratitude to God.
  • Exalting Jesus Christ in our lives.

2 – Content (vs. 2-4)

Courage must be coupled with content. There is great power in the Bible. It is the living Word of God.

  • Reasoned – Paul has dialogue with them. He sat down and discussed. He gave answers to questions. See 1 Peter 3:15-16. We need to be ready to give an answer. You don’t have to be a great theologian.
  • Opening – Paul gave them the meaning or interpretation of the Bible.
  • Alleging – He applied the Word of God to their lives.

3 – Conflict (vs. 5-15)

In Berea they investigated the Scriptures. They did not just take Paul’s word for it. Even here they followed Paul and stirred up trouble. There is going to be difficulties and troubles in your life if you live a godly life. See 2 Timothy 3:12. Why does God bring conflict?

  • God wants to get your attention.
  • It will deliver us from pride. You will need God.
  • It shows our strengths and weaknesses.
  • It will demonstrate the faithfulness of God.
  • It will strengthen your faith.
  • It will prepare you for future service.
  • It will enable us to comfort other people who are going through difficulties.

How do you handle difficulties? If you grab it by the blade it will cut you. If you grab it by the handle it will serve you. We can keep on growing and make an impact for God.
