In this world there is little thought about things that really matter. We are being bombarded by the media. (E.g. TV and newspapers) We are being driven by our emotions. We surf with the latest big wave. The Christian is not to go with the flow. We need to engage our minds. It is easier to go with the flow – it requires less thought and conviction.
1 – A call to think
The mind in itself is neutral. The mind is influenced by what you put into it. What you put in determines what comes out. The mind has also been affected by sin. We are all thinkers. We can all compare and contrast. It does not matter what age we are. We are all thinkers. You may not have a formal education. We are still all thinkers. We need to put the fork of our mind into the meat of God’s word. The word of God is to be our main authority – not our emotions.
2 – A call to Christian thinking
The Bible is to be meditated upon day and night. The word of God is alive. It is the best food for the Christian mind. The Bible has truth. Feelings will have you all over the place. The Bible is honest and worthy of our respect. We must be careful what goes into our minds. Some of the junk that is on TV late at night will pollute your mind.
-
Whatever is true
-
Whatever is noble.
-
Whatever is right.
-
Whatever is pure.
-
Whatever is lovely.
We are not lone rangers. We all need to mediate on God’s Word. Beware of those perversions of sex that seek to take away your purity. Take heed to the Word of God to keep your thought pure. We need the help of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. Few people today have not been tempted by lust. Do we have built-in radar to spot the dangers in a dirty world?
Our minds need to be lovely. They need to be open. There are thoughts that can tear you or others down. We are to mediate on whatever is true, noble, right, pure and lovely.
3 – A call to put Christian thinking into action
Facts in the head are not enough. They need to make their way into our hearts. We need to pass the baton onto others.
