God wants to have a personal relationship on the inside rather than from afar. God created us to have a personal relationship when he made us in his image. Jesus prayed, ate and laughed with his disciples. He shared the most intimate thoughts of his heart. He took Peter, James and John up to the mountain when he was transfigured. Jesus weeps when he hears that Lazarus has died. He is distressed in the garden as he faces the cross. He is so distressed that he sweats blood and the disciples are asleep. Jesus wants to have the same intimate relationship with us. He is our closest friend.
