Did you know that there are seven colours that make up the spectrum of light? This light reminds us of the perfection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 – The purity of light
In the natural world there is nothing as pure as light. No matter what it passes through or falls upon light can never be defiled or corrupted. It is a wonderful picture of Jesus Christ. Jesus could touch sinners but sin could not touch Jesus. Jesus was incorruptible.
2 – The constancy of light
Light is constant. Light does not change. God does not change. See James 1:17. Einstein was able to construct the theory of relativity because the only constant thing was light. The speed of light never changes. Malachi 3:6 “I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.” Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Isn’t it wonderful in a world of change there is one who will not change?
3 – The victory of light (vs. 5)
Throughout history there has been a universal battle between light and darkness. Lucifer was “the light bearer” but now he is Satan “the father of the night”. Darkness has no power against light. It is totally powerless against light. How do you get darkness out of a room? Can you take a vacuum cleaner to it? Can you take a shovel and dig it out? No! You turn on a light and darkness flees away. It cannot stay. It is totally powerless against the light. Amen! The sun provides the light for our world. There is more energy in one second of sunlight than man has created throughout history. The light has come into the world. Jesus has come to vanquish the darkness. You can block out the light but you cannot put it out. Even on a cloudy day the sun is still shining. You cannot turn on the darkness to put out the light.
4 – The vitality of light (vs. 4)
You cannot have life unless you have light. In the beginning God first of all said “let there be light”. Remember photosynthesis (light – put together)? Without light our earth would become cold, dark and dead. When Jesus came to the world in him was light that brought life to those who were cold, dark and dead. Jesus came to give life and give it abundantly. Do you want your life put back together? It will be put back together by light. There is a divine photosynthesis. There will be a sunrise of the soul. In the Garden of Eden God was living in Adam but when he sinned the Lord went out, and when the Lord went out the life went out, and when the life went out the light went out. When God come back into the life of a person, the light and life return. God can turn the light back on.
5 – The glory of light (vs. 14)
There are seven colours that make up the spectrum of light. These remind us of the perfection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The colour is in the light. Anything that you wear or have is determined by light. The colour is in the light. Without light you have only darkness. I feel sorry for people who have never seen the light. The colours are beautiful. Those who walk in darkness do not see the glory of the light unless you ask God to turn on the light.
The sad thing is that many refuse to accept the light. (Vs 9ff) Why do some people blot out the light? (See John 3:16-19) People love darkness rather than light because their deeds and evil and they don’t want to be reproved. Don’t deny the light because you can’t see it. It is there if you will open your heart to him he will pull back the veil of darkness and you will see things that you have never seen before because Go will turn on the light.
