When Jesus ascended he had finished his part of the task. What is this unfinished task that we have as a Church?
1 – It is a divine task of sharing the Gospel of Christ
We have continued the task of sharing the Gospel.
2 – It is a redemptive task
We are to continue the task of leading others to Christ.
3 – It is a supernatural task
We do not have the wisdom and power to carry out the task. We need the power of the Holy Spirit. All the work of the Church is a supernatural task. If it is done in our own strength it will accomplish nothing.
4 – It is a shared task
Jesus shared the task he had with twelve others. Jesus spent three years teaching them. They then shared with others. There are no “Lone Rangers” in the Church.
5 – It is an unfinished task
At some point in history it will be finished. It is a very important thing that God has called us to do. The only reason we know Jesus Christ is because someone shared it with you. God only has one plan. There is no plan B! Some people want to shirk the responsibility. We have a paid Pastor who will share the Gospel with others! Who is going to pray for you? We all should be involved in our Churches and have an individual responsibility to share the Gospel in our own lives. If we shirk the responsibility we are disobeying God. The Gospel is being proclaimed throughout the world. Are we involved personally? It is not to be all left up to God. God wants to use, chooses to use, the witness of Christians. See Romans 10:13-15. How else will people hear unless we tell them? After we got saved, God left us here on this Earth for a purpose. Otherwise He would take us home to Heaven. Life is a matter of life and death. People can lose their lives very quickly. The world is the field. Our message is the Gospel – that Jesus loves you. We need to ask four questions:-
-
What can I do? You can share your faith with someone else. Tell people what Jesus has done in your life.
-
What should I do? Should you pass by people you know are lost and tell them nothing?
-
What is God telling me to do? Should you not discuss religion and politics? Don’t talk about religion and politics – talk about Jesus.
-
What am I willing to do? Are you willing to tell someone about Jesus Christ? We are to plant the seed. They may believe or they may not. You can’t say, “I don’t know what to do.”
The answer to these four questions will tell us if:-
-
Whether I love Jesus or if I am just paying lip service.
-
Whether I am walking in the Spirit or the flesh.
-
It will reveal if I am a true servant or just a hearer.
-
Am I living for myself or for Jesus?
The word “Lord” means that Jesus is our “boss”. We are to hear and obey. The answer to the four questions should be “Share It!”
