What is the point in worrying about something that has not happened to you yet? Why are we not to worry or be afraid?
1 – Worry is a failure to understand God’s priority (vs. 22-23)
Your life is far more than physical things like eating, drinking and clothing. The priority with God is more than surviving in this world. There is a spiritual dimension that gives meaning to our lives.
2 – Worry is a failure to understand God’s provision
Everything that we have comes from God. It is God’s pledge to us that sustain us.
3 – Worry is a failure to understand God’s privilege (vs. 22-23)
We do not determine where we are born and how long we are here on this Earth. It is up to God when we live and die. Worry makes no contribution.
4 – Worry is a failure to understand God’s preference (vs. 27-28)
God looks after the grass and the plants. If he does this for them then think how much more he will do for us! We are of more value. He will do much more for us. We need not worry. We are to not have little faith. Worry is opposed to faith. We are commanded not to worry! Don’t live your life like there is no God.
5 – Worry is a failure to understand God’s paternity (vs. 30-31)
God is our Father. He knows the things that we need. He will determine things for us. This is true for those who believe. The world does not want these things. The Devil does not want faith in God. He wants you to worry. If you are not born-again than all you are interested in is the physical things of this world – food and clothes for example.
We are to seek God’s Kingdom and his righteousness first and the physical things that we need will be provided. The world seeks physical things first – money, food, etc. We are to worship, serve and witness. We are to seek the things above rather than the things of this Earth. See Colossians 3:1-4. God takes care of those who belong to Him and follow Him.
Don’t become a member of the “little faith” society who worries over things that have not yet happened.
6 – Worry is a failure to understand God’s pleasure (vs. 32)
God is not reluctant. He is delighted to provide for the children that He loves.
