The Holy Highway – Matthew 7:1-6

There are many roads in the world. The road I want to talk about is the S & N – the straight and narrow. This is the King’s highway. You need to put your feet on this holy highway.

1 – A decision to face (vs. 16-17)

It is up to you. There are only two ways – the broad way or the narrow way. There are only two ways. Modern man does not like this. God divides vertically – saved or lost, sheep or goats, etc. There are two types of travellers on two types of roads. There are only two types of people – the saved or the aint. The world says “don’t be narrow minded”. The world is on the broad road. See John 14:6 & Jeremiah 1:8. Jesus can be found only the narrow road. God has not made a mistake. See Galatians 1:8, 9. The Bible is a narrow book. In the things that matter most the world does not want narrow.

  • The freedom to decide – Jesus says “Enter”. You are free to do what you want but not as you ought.
  • The forcing of decision – You are not free to not decide. You are forced into a decision. You cannot wash your hands of Jesus Christ. The decision to not decide is a decision. If you are not for Christ you are against Christ.
  • The fruits of decision – There is harvest time and the fruits may not be pleasant.

2 – A direction to follow

The narrow way is the way the Christian is walking.

  • It is a disciplined way. It is not an easy way. We are to endure hardship like a good soldier. Today it too often a cheap and easy faith that is talked by Christians. Any dead fish can float down the stream. It is a straight way.
  • It is a different way. It is not a way that the crowds will follow. It starts from a different source and ends somewhere else.
  • It is a delightful way. (Vs 8) It is a clean way. It is the way of holiness. It is a certain way. You do not a degree to find this narrow way to God. It is confident. You do not have to worry about losing your salvation when on this road. It is a cheerful way. There shall be song and everlasting joy. Sorrow will flee away. Death will be vanquished!

3 – A destiny to find

Every road is going somewhere. When I get to where I am heading, where will I be? Is it destruction or life? Direction determines destiny. When you die your destiny is fixed Revelation 22:11. The broad road has a sign pointing to the narrow road saying exit now! There may not be another opportunity to exit.
