This is a plastic and phony world that we live in. Too often we get the wrong thing. Make sure you get the real thing.
1 – We must possess real wealth (vs. 19)
The rich man is poor when he tries to find satisfaction in his riches. A poor man can have all that he wants. See proverbs 15:16. If you increase wealth you increase trouble. See Proverbs 23:4-5. Money can become your master rather than your slave. A rich man is a poor man if he does not have treasures in heaven. You cannot keep money. Riches have wings! See Proverbs 11:4 and Luke 16. Don’t lay up for yourselves treasures on earth. The Bible allows wealth. See 1 Timothy 16:17. Don’t put your trust in riches. Stop treasuring treasure! See 1 Peter 1:4. You need a safety deposit box in heaven where rust or thieves cannot get at it. Invest your life in things that are going to heaven. Can you tell by your bank statement what really matters to you?
2 – We must perceive real wisdom (vs. 21-22)
There are people who think they have real wisdom but it is darkness. See Proverbs 4:4-7. All wisdom centres on Jesus. The double-minded person sees double. It is hard to know where you are going if you are seeing double! The single-minded person is fixed on Jesus. When the blind lead the blind they both fall in the ditch. Morality by majority rather than by God’s word is false wisdom. Wisdom comes from looking up.
3 – We must practice real worship (vs. 23-24)
Mammon is a word for “possessions”. You CAN’T serve two masters. You can’t be a slave to two masters. The one master is Jesus. He demands to be Lord. When you bow the knee to Jesus you are truly free.
