In The Den Of Lions – Daniel 6:1-28

Daniel was a man of prayer. He prayed three times a day – even in the lion’s den! It was this that led to a consistent life.

1. In His daily walk

Daniel was well over 80 at this time. Retirement is not a Biblical concept. There is no mention of a pension or bus pass! We do not step back from serving the Lord. We should patronize these people. Older people often have a lifetime of wisdom that can be of help to those who are younger. What we see as ordinary is seen as extraordinary by God. We are to be salt. We are to be a light. We are to do this consistently each day. A godly life can be hated by those in the workplace as Daniel experienced firsthand.

2. In His devotional life

We are to pray without ceasing. Daniel’s prayer life was more than habit. When faced with a problem he prayed. When faced with being killed for praying to his God he prayed. It was what he did.

3 – In his trust in God

Darius had a perception of Daniel’s God. He was open to the possibility of Daniel being rescued from the lions. Darius hadn’t slept all night and was excited the next morning to see if Daniel is still alive. Not only was Daniel alright but he didn’t even have a scratch from a claw! The lions were not interested! They couldn’t eat Daniel. Daniel says that God had shut their mouths.

4 – In bringing glory to God

It is Daniel who prompts the king to give praise to God. Darius is aware that Daniel’s God is God of all.
