From The Palace To The Pit – Ezekiel 28:8-19

The King of Tyre lived a life of luxury in his palace and had great wealth. All of the dictators of this world are shadows of Satan who was in a palace and is now heading for the pit. Christians are at war. It is not political. It is not philosophical. It is not cultural. It is spiritual. There is a kingdom of evil that opposes the church and rules this world. See Revelation 2:13. The king of this kingdom of evil is Satan. See John 14:30 – “Prince of this world”. The power behind the king of Tyre is Satan. It is Satan who is really addressed in these verses.

1 – Satan was created in perfection (vs. 11-18)

Satan was created full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. His name was originally Lucifer which means “light bearer”. He lived in Heaven and had great administrative authority in Heaven. He was the leader of the leaders. He would orchestrate the praise to God. It has to be remembered that he was still a created being. He was not equal with God.

2 – Satan was corrupted through pride (vs. 15-17)

There was a point when iniquity was found in Lucifer. It was pride that made him believe he was equal to God. See Isaiah 14. Satan made merchandise of his office. He put his hands on the praise that should have gone to God. He fell because of his exalted position. He was a holy angel who had a choice to do good or evil. Satan chose to do evil because of pride. Satan is a master of deception. He is not some hideous monster in appearance. He appears as an angel of light. See 2 Corinthians 11:14-15. Satan wants us to believe his lie that we can be like God if we do things his way. Satan wants worship. He even wanted Jesus to bow down and worship Him. We need humility to counter our pride.

3 – Satan continues with power (vs. 17-18)

Satan was cast out of heaven when pride was found in him. He is allowed to continue with power by the permission of God. Satan came as a con artist to Adam and Eve. They became slaves to Satan. We are all by nature slaves to Satan and he rules this world. See 2 Corinthians 4:4 & Ephesians 6:12. Do you want to know what is wrong with this world? It is under the rule of Satan. Satan has a reign of terror. He is the chief terrorist of this world. He is out to destroy young children. The “gods” of Molech and Baal killed young children. Pharaoh and Herod both order for babies to be slaughtered. Today we have “planned parenthood” where we even abort unborn young children. It is murder in God’s eyes.

Jesus has come to take away the authority of Satan. See Colossians 2:15. Jesus spoiled the power base of Satan when He rose from the dead. Satan is subdued to the child of God. He has been defeated. He is present but he is powerless over the Christian. He is sailing a sinking ship. In Jesus we are conquerors.

4 – Satan is consigned to the pit (vs. 8, 18-19)

The terror of Satan will soon be over. He will be put into a pit. We are not to be terrorised by Satan. In Jesus we have authority if we will use it. The real war is not flesh and blood. It is with spiritual powers and wickedness in high places. Don’t join Satan in hell. Give your life to Jesus. Satan will not rule over Hell. He will be a prisoner. Satan has left the palace and his future is the pit.
