We have different seasons in nature and in our own lives. We have seasons of productivity and those where things are standing still. There are seasons of plenty and seasons of poverty. There are seasons when we are growing as Christians and other seasons where God seems far away from us. There are times when we feel confident and other seasons where we feel down.
The faithfulness of God is the one principle that will help us through the seasons of life.
1 – What is the faithfulness of God?
God always does exactly what he says he will do. God is unchanging. His faithfulness never changes. It is constant through every season in life. It is in God’s nature. See Deuteronomy 7:7-9. God keeps his promises. See Psalm 36:5. God’s faithfulness is without measure. It never fails. See 1 Corinthians 1:8-9. God will complete what he starts. See Psalm 56:3-4 & Psalm 62:8. God is an anchor in the seasons of life.
2 – What is the basis for believing that God is faithful?
-
He is omniscient. He knows everything. In whatever season God is not surprised. He knows about everything. He knows every detail.
-
He is omnipotent. He has all power. God has adequate power to enable us to walk through the different seasons of life. God is working out a purpose. He can speed things up or slow it down. He has a plan and does things for our good. Trials, heartaches and pain are there for a reason.
-
He is omnipresent. We are never alone. We have travelled hand in hand with the Almighty God. It does not matter how far away we try to run. God is never far away. Jonah tried but could not run away from the Lord.
-
He is immutable. He never changes. He is the same God all the time. God has not become older, weaker or poorer.
3 – How God helps us through the seasons of life
-
To provide everything you need. God keeps us all the time. God is faithful when you are asleep or awake, good or bad.
-
In times of temptation and trial. See 1 Corinthians 10:13. God puts a limitation upon every temptation and trial. We are not to depend upon ourselves.
-
In times of satanic attack. See 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3. Satan is out to derail us from the Christian walk. See 2 Timothy 3:12. If you live a godly life you will receive satanic attacks.
-
In seasons of fear and uncertainty. See Psalm 91:1-4. God does not change so there is certainty.
-
When you are distracted by pain. You understand it better in others if you have gone through it yourself. It allows us to have compassion for others. See 2 Timothy 2:13. God remains faithful. His character does not change on the basis of our character.
-
In seasons of difficulty brought upon us by others. See 1 Peter 4:19. It may not be the popular thing but it will be the right thing.
-
When his hand of discipline is in our life. See Psalm 119:75. Those whom God loves he disciplines.
In whatever circumstance God is always there and he has all the resources we need to come through that season.
4 – What can we expect in our life when we trust in a faithful God?
If God is not a faithful God then how will you know your sins are forgiven and that you are going to heaven? The Bible says God is faithful so if so then he will:-
-
Shield you from worry. We are not to be anxious. God has a troop of angels looking after us. We do not have to worry because God IS in control.
-
Safeguard us from murmuring. You can lose your sense of purpose, meaning and usefulness when you retire. You need to keep yourself occupied and working for God. A murmurer is destructive to themselves and others.
-
Support us with awesome sustaining strength.
If you trust God to be faithful then you will see God bring you through every season of your life. God’s purpose and plan for you is the best for you. It is not easy to say and believe it. It requires trust in a faithful God. When you do you will not worry because God is faithful.
