There are human, earthly proverbs that people follow. What is taught in God’s Word will make you healthy, wealthy and wise. The book of Proverbs is the full of key passage to help us to health, wealth and wisdom. If God was to offer you anything you wanted – what would you ask Him for? See 1 Kings 3:4-28. Solomon has this opportunity. What did he ask for? He asked for wisdom.
1 – The incomparable worth of wisdom
There are so many things that come with wisdom. It is the ideal choice to ask for. See Proverbs 8:11. Wisdom is greater than riches.

The promise of the Father (vs. 1) – He says “my son”. We have a father speaking to his son. The king is a father who passes wisdom to his son. We have a Father who is a King.

The product of the Spirit (vs. 1) – We have a teacher of wisdom. It is the Holy Spirit. In the Bible the Holy Spirit is the one who teaches us. Knowledge is learned but wisdom comes from God. Wisdom is how we apply our knowledge. The word “wisdom” is related to the word “skill”. Wise living is living skilfully. There is a world of difference between someone who does some projects with wood and a master carpenter. It has to do with skill. Jesus is the secret of the universe. You are wise if you follow Him. There is a wisdom that comes from knowing God.

The presence of the Savour (vs. 2) – You will not have real wisdom unless you know the Lord Jesus. Jesus is wisdom personified. See 1 Corinthians 1:20.
2 – The infallible way to wisdom
How can you have this wisdom?

You must pursue the scriptures (vs. 1-2) – God’s Word is his handbook of wisdom. You must appreciate the Word of God. It like receiving someone into your house. We must let God’s Word get into our lives. We should be taking notes and go deeper. We must expect God to give us some wisdom when we read His Word. We can then apply God’s Word in our life. It is obedience that gives you knowledge of God. You will have wisdom in your life.

You must have the prayer of a saint (vs. 3-6) – We are to pray with intensity. It is to be something that we desire with all our body, soul and spirit. If you seek wisdom then you will find it. We are to keep on praying until we get wisdom. It is like looking for a hidden treasure. We are to expect to receive wisdom from the Lord (vs. 5). It is the Lord who gives wisdom. He wants to give wisdom to us.

You must have the presence of the Saviour (vs. 7-8). The Lord Jesus Christ has strength, satisfaction and wisdom. All other things are no use if we don’t have Jesus Christ in our hearts and in our lives.
