The Bible says quite simply and clearly that we are not to commit adultery. Husband – “After 50 years I have found you tried and true.” Wife – “I am tired of you too.”
The law of God needs to be in our hearts rather than on the outside. The gatekeeper must be on the inside. Sexual involvement outside of marriage is a grievous sin to God. See Acts 15:9; Colossians 3:5 & 1 Thessalonians 4:3. The word fornication refers to sex before and outside of marriage. You are building obstacles to your marriage if you commit fornication. The marriage has become like a dog licence today. You can change it for another dog with great ease or have more than one.
-
We need to have compassion for those who have failed.
-
We need to be building some barricades to protect people.
-
We need to be teaching the drivers how to drive. Young people need instruction. It is easier to get a marriage licence than a driving licence. To get a driving licence you need to know something. We all have a responsibility to help others.
1 – God’s plan for a magnificent marriage (Genesis 2:21-24)
Marriage has the highest priority in human relationship. It is not the child to parent relationship. Parents must prepare our children to leave and get married. The permanence of marriage is stressed in these verses. It is God who has joined people together in marriage. Divorce should not even be considered. Problems in marriage can be overcome. There needs to be commitment. In divorce everyone is a loser. God hates divorce. The purpose of marriage is to create one flesh. Marriage is a romance where the two people die and are then made one. It is a physical, emotional and spiritual union.
To adulterate something is to make it impure. Adultery is a sin against you. People talk today about “safe sex”, it should be “sacred sex”. Adultery is a sin against the partner and children. Children see the adulterer as a liar and a cheat. It was the sin of immorality that destroyed all great civilisations in the past. It is the same sin that will destroy today’s nations that show no restraint. Adultery is a sin against the church. Adultery is also a sin against almighty God. See Proverbs 6:22. The 10 commandments are law, not advice. Christians who continue to live immoral lives are not true Christians. See 2 Corinthians 6:9 & Ephesians 5:5 & Revelation 21:8. We need to teach and warn our children.
2 – How to keep your marriage on track
These are critical to a magnificent marriage.
-
Decide for Christ.
-
Depend on Christ. Let him give you the power day by day.
-
Devotion to God and your partner. You must choose to love your partner.
-
Development. Let your love continue to grow. Love is not a diamond. Love is like a flower. It must be cultivated and fed to keep it growing. It is not static. Do not flirt with someone else. Never stop flirting with your wife.
-
Discipline. Guard your company. Those that are urging you to sin are not your friends. If you do not want to fall down – don’t walk in slippery places.
-
Determination. Make up your mind and stick to it. You need to be fixed. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.
