Unleashing Your Passion Potential – Genesis 24:1

If you have it, it propels you to absolute greatness. If you don’t have it then you don’t understand people who have it. The secret ingredient is passion. It is an unbelievable burst of energy and passion that propels you to do something greater and achieve something more. It produces enthusiasm that is contagious! Abraham sends his servant out to find a wife for his son. It is passion that makes a difference in your life. Here are seven keys to unleashing your passion potential.

1 – Determine your position (vs. 1)

Abraham had to examine his current condition. He is an old man and his son does not have a wife. There is no point living in fantasy land. You can’t have passion in life if you don’t know where you are in life.

  • Your spiritual position – How is your relationship with the Lord?
  • Your personal position – How are you doing in the home, in your marriage and job for example?
  • Your professional position – What are your goals? Are you going through the motions or are you trying to do more? Are you hungry for more?

2 – Define your purpose (vs. 2-6)

What is your purpose in life? There needs to be an object that motivates you. The servant was to find a wife from within their own people for his son. We all need a purpose. Do you know where you want to be five or ten years from now? Imagine yourself at a funeral. Now imagine that it is your own funeral! What would you want people to say? Live that way! Do you want them to get up and lie?

  • Purpose increases your energy – It helps you get out of bed in the morning.
  • It will lift you. There will be problems and concerns. A purpose in life will lift you above it. (vs. 5).
  • It must be purposely sustained. We need to be forced to do it. We need to drink water even if we don’t want to. It is an act of our will.
  1. You need to make every one of your actions count.
  2. You need to challenge all of your excuses.
  3. Don’t let yesterday hijack your intentions. Get over it! It is time to move on. You need to force things along.
  4. Focus on the present. Don’t be focusing on tomorrow. You need to get through today.
  5. Stay focused on results. – Develop and follow your priorities. There is a proverb that the hunter, who chases two rabbits, catches neither one. Follow your priorities. – Focus your life on your strengths and not on your weaknesses. Don’t focus on the copper coins when you have gold coins. What areas are you strong in? What have you succeeded in?

3 – Discover a promise (vs. 7)

When things are difficult we all need a promise from the Lord. The Lord God will be with you. Open the Bible and find a promise. You can’t do it without reading the Bible. God does not break his promises. We may not keep our promises but God keeps his. Why are promises so important?

  • It will propel your forward. When you are feeling down it lift you up.
  • It will raise your expectation level. You will expect a blessing from God.
  • It will obscure the obstacles in your path. You look at the majesty rather than the misery. You will be able to move forward.
  • It makes you to focus on the power of God. You can’t do all things in your own power. God will light your fire on the inside.

4 – Describe the profit (vs. 8)

How does it benefit you? The servant had the gratitude of his master. The child would be an ancestor of Jesus Christ. When you see the reward then it unleashes your passion. It is not a grind. You can see the reward. There is profit in all that we do. It is not for money.

  • Belief determines your expectations. When you don’t believe anything then you don’t expect anything.
  • Expectation determines your actions. Hilary failed to climb Everest the first time but he was determined and climbed it the second time. He knew the mountain wasn’t going to get any bigger but he could!
  • Your action determines your results. You won’t get here without starting with belief.

5 – Desire in prayer (vs. 12)

Prayer is a match that will light your passion. If your outlook is bad try your up-look! You are not trying to get in touch with a God who is reluctant. We need more than theology. We are to call upon the Lord. That is where the power, promise and purpose are to be found.

  • Pray regularly.
  • Pray expectedly. Expect God to answer and deliver.
  • Pray joyfully. When we pray we are walking into the throne room of God! We should be excited!

6 – Desire in prayer (vs. 12)

How was this servant going to get a wife for Isaac? He devised a test. He put himself in a place where all the women were and prayed that the woman whom he asks for a drink and she offers for his camels also is the wife that God has appointed. He sets the test and prays and God immediately sends Rebekah! How do we deal with our problems:-

  • Get out of the habit of giving up. Don’t give up. Finish what you start. Make sure you finish what you started. Do you follow your dream to the end or do your give up?
  • Get out of the belief that life should be easy. Life means problems. You need to study to get good jobs in life.

7 – Display your passion (vs. 34-53)

The servant is not going home without a wife for Isaac. He displays his passion in his actions.

  • He did some talking. He tells then about Abraham and Isaac.
  • He did some praying.
  • He gave gifts to Rebekah and her family.

We all need an attitude that says I will not lose. We need real passion. Passion can overcome our limitations. Here are some reasons why passion is so important:-

  • Passion is the first step to achievement.
  • Passion increases your will power. It makes you “hungry” to succeed.
  • Passion will produce energy.
  • Passion is always the foundation for excellence.
  • Passion is the key to success.
