The Israel Connection – Genesis 12:1-13

The prophetic word of God gives us many predictions that were fulfilled in the past and those which are still to be fulfilled in the future. If history tells us that prophecy has been fulfilled then we can have confidence that these future prophecies will be fulfilled. Bible prophecy always comes true. It has a 100% success rate, unlike the predictions of false prophets, psychics and horoscopes! The number one evidence today of the fulfilment of Bible prophecy is the rebirth of Israel.

1 – The record of Israel’s land

This is the greatest issue in international politics. It is God’s land and He gave it to the Jewish people.

  • God’s choice of Israel – Why would God choose them? See Deuteronomy 7:6-7. God did something special with them. He did choose them because there was so many of them. It was not because of their sensitivity to God. See Isaiah 45:1. They were not more righteous than others. See Deuteronomy 9:6-7. God did it because He is God. He can show mercy and grace and He can choose anyone.
  • God’s covenant with Israel – The land is part of the prayers, hopes and passion. The people are linked to the land. To abandon the land is to against God and the Bible. Notice two things about this covenant:-
  1. An exact covenant (Genesis 15:18) – The land is clearly defined. It is a piece of real estate. It was not heaven! Abraham was to leave Ur and travel to the Promised Land. You don’t need to travel to get to Heaven!
  2. An everlasting covenant (Genesis 17:7-8) – There was no opt-out clause! Israel does not control all of the land at the moment and never has to date. The land covers all of present day Israel, Lebanon, West Bank of Jordan and large portions of Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. All of the land will not belong to Israel until the Millennium reign of Christ.

2 – The relocation of the people of Israel

There has been vast numbers of years when Israel was not in this land and were scattered throughout the world.

  • The scattering of the Jewish people – Israel had been rebellious and the people were scattered as a result. See Deuteronomy 4:27; Ezekiel 12:15 & Hosea 9:17. God was a jealous God and would not suffer idolatry.
  • The suffering of the Jewish people – They were hated by the people of the world. See Deuteronomy 28:65. The dispersion had caused great anguish. In 1933 there were nine million Jews in Europe. At the end of the war in 1945 there was only three million left. The Nazis organised an efficient way of mass murdering men, women and children and the Jewish people were their main target. They should have been wiped out but God had made a promise!

3 – The rebirth of the nation of Israel

See Isaiah 11:11-12 & Ezekiel 36:24. This hope of restoration has sustained the Jewish people as a nation. It is an incredible act of God. Do you know where the nation of the Moabites, Philistines and Hittites are today? They are extinct! The sympathy of the world after the Second World War meant that in 1948, Israel became a nation. A total of one million Jews initially returned. The British left Palestine. The people have returned to the land but not back to the Lord.

4 – The return to the God of Israel

See Ezekiel 36:24-28 & Jeremiah 32:37-38. There are now over five million Jews in the homeland. This is the most prominent sign of the return of Jesus. The people will return to the God of Israel. This is exciting times for the Christian and the Church. The time is short. Trust in Jesus now!
